You can reach Romania by plane (from Germany) in about 1.5 hours. By car (from Passau, A3) in about 8 hours (via highway in Austria, Hungary to the border entry at the cities of Arad / Timisoara). Due to Schengen, you can expect no more border controls since 01.01.2025.
